Meet Our Team

  • Dr. Michelle Woodruff

Dr. Michelle Woodruff grew up in Northern BC where her family had a very large grain and beef farm. She started riding in the saddle with her dad as a young child, and by age 3 she had her own horse, Paint. At 11 she started her own herd of cattle. Michelle was immersed in ranch life from an early age and can't remember life without animals around!

She completed Equine Studies at Fairview College in 1993 and followed that with her Animal Health Technology Diploma in 1995. During her work practicum as an AHT she decided she wanted to be a veterinarian and in 2001, she graduated from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine with her degree in Veterinary Medicine and has been practicing in rural Alberta ever since.

Dr. Michelle and her husband Ian have seven children, including two sets of twins. They raise purebred horned Hereford cattle and enjoy being self-sufficient, growing or raising most of their own meat, vegetables, eggs and honey. Outside of practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Michelle enjoys spending time with her family, riding her horse, gardening, sewing, crafting, and painting.

  • Sophia Linke

Sophia has spent her entire life around animals and has always had a passion for veterinary medicine. Throughout her undergraduate degree she worked at different equine and small animal practices and after finishing her BSc in Animal Health at the University of Alberta in 2021, she decided to pursue a second degree in Animal Health Technology at Lakeland College. She graduated in Spring of 2023.

Her main focus is hospital care and she has found a love for surgery and dentistry.

In her spare time when she is not working on the cattle farm that she lives on with her husband, she makes it out to every 25 to 35 mile endurance race she can with her mare.

  • Emily

Emily graduated from Buck Mountain High School in 2020 with the dream of helping animals. She went to Olds College and pursued her passion in the Animal Health Technology program and graduated fall of 2022 as an RVT. She really enjoys meeting clients and their furry friends. Emily loves all species of animals but her favourites are the large animals.

Emily grew up on a small farm outside of Buck Lake, Alberta where they have a variety of animals including cattle, horses, goats, chickens, dogs, and cats. Emily enjoys spending time outside with her animals and in her free time, she likes to paint and draw. She is always finding new activities and ways to include animals in her day to day life such as hiking or riding her horses.

  • Budwardo

Budwardo is our clinic cat and he came with the building. He started out as a stray and his name is a combination of Buddy and Edwardo, because Dr. Michelle’s family couldn’t decide which name to give him. He has found his forever home with us and we love him to pieces! He is a very large cat and weighs 8 kg / 17 lbs!

He is a unique “smoke” colour, grey at the roots and black at the tips of his hair. He is very social and especially loves people and dogs. Feel free to give him some cheek scratches if you see him at the clinic!

  • Beth Cartwright

Beth recently joined Woodruff Veterinary Services Ltd. after moving to Tomahawk, AB from Calgary in December 2023. With over 15 years customer service experience, Beth is excited to be apart of a growing team and is ready to assist WVS clients. Animals have always been a major part of Beth’s life and although she only has two Great Pyrenees and a cat currently, she has experience working with Cockatiels, African Greys and Eclectus parrots.

When Beth is not working at the clinic, she enjoys spending time with her family, blowing glass and playing disc golf.
